Intermediate Painting

From the Still Life and Plaster Cast

With Nick Leavey

Back to Painting with Nick Leavey or Full Class Timetable

This course will lead you through a sequence which begins with the composition of a group of objects as a still-life. You will demonstrate your understanding of the process that involves the drawing of thumb-nail sketches and charcoal drawings. You will be introduced to elements of colour theory, and you will learn about the layout of a simple colour palette. The outcome of this course will be the production of a number of colour still life paintings in oil.

Additionally, you will further explore a variety of methods and techniques for preparing the surface to be painted, and increase your knowledge of the methods and terminology used in the pursuit of painting in oils.

I would also recommend that you maintain a sketchbook both as a record of your observations and a focus for your ideas.
