I am a 28 year old artist working out of Salisbury Studios, Brisbane. My painting, drawing and sculpture is predominantly figurative, with drawing from the life model being central to my artistic practice over the last 12 years. I began training with David Paulson in 1998 and continued his classes for five years. Later, I attended the Julian Ashton Art School.
Visually, I am concerned with the way form, and light falling on form creates depth that interacts with the 2d abstract design of an image, and with the way that the movement of classical rhythm and gesture, so strongly a part of the natural world, can be exploited in a static work of art. Aesthetically, I believe in visual art as a medium that should speak for itself, creating a mood, an intrigue, an implied sense of the relationship between human beings and existence, with further explanation being interesting but not essential.
