    How it works

For a description of the enrolment process, see the bottom paragraph of this page

    At your own pace...

In a format similar to traditional art schools, in a given session the teacher will have students at a variety of levels (from beginner to advanced), some drawing, others painting or sculpting.   The teacher will work with each student individually at their own level, taking each through the curriculum of that topic at their own pace

Beginners will see where the course will take them in the future, working alongside experienced students. While students who have been with us for a while will be reminded of the basics that they originally worked through themselves in this open class system.  When there are several students in the class at a similar level, for whom a particular discussion or demonstration is relevant, the teacher will talk to them as a group.

    Casual attendance, not term enrolment...

Also for this reason, we do not require enrolment by term.  Instead, term classes are all casual. This is more accommodating to your individual availability and experience level than a one-size-fits-all structure.

You can start with any teacher at any time in the year, and will be guided at your own pace through the curriculum of that particular course.   We advise, however, that you will gain the most by having continuity of contact with a particular teacher over a period of time, so the teacher can get to know your strengths and how to best help you move forward. Class sizes can fill to capacity, and at that time we must refer people onto other scheduled classes.

2012 sees the introduction of a casual rate of $18 per half day session for those who simply want to come and work from our casts, work from a still-life, or simply work in a pleasant studio atmosphere without tuition.

Workshops are a bit different - find out about workshops here

Classes Organised by visual subject not experience level...

For this reason, our class schedule is organised by subject rather than experience level.  (If you would like to find out what is in the curriculum at a particular level with a particular teacher, you can click on the session of interest in the Which class is right for you page)

    Discounts on blocks of classes...

Significant discounts apply to purchasing a block of 10, 20, 40 or 60 classes, and the discount is scaled to the number of classes you purchase, which you can find out about at the price list.  The block of classes is purchased as a punchcard that is marked off as you attend classes, and you have twelve months to use the classes from when they are purchased.

    Full-time Student 12 week pass

For the new year, 2012 sees the introduction of an unlimited full-time student pass, which lasts for twelve weeks, and allows you to attend any tutored session during the week and at weekends. If you take full advantage of the new pass you will be paying the equivalent of around $14 per lesson!
